‘Iolani School is a thriving, lively, warm community, thanks in large part to the support and cooperation we receive from the parents of students and graduates.

The parent constituency is a major force in the life of ‘Iolani School.  Parents volunteer at school events, serve as career mentors, attend athletic events, academic competitions, and performing arts productions.

Established in 1986, the ‘Iolani ‘Ohana is the parent organization of the school.  All current parents automatically become members of the ‘Ohana.  The ‘Ohana promotes activities that support the One Team spirit among all members of the ‘Iolani community.  ‘Ohana members serve as grade level representatives who assist with class events, coordinate programs, and share ideas that are meaningful to the ‘Iolani community.

‘Iolani parents take part in many school events, but the one that brings the whole school together is the ‘Iolani Fair, a two-day event held in April.  Besides food, craft, plant and specialty booths, there are games and activities for children, student and professional entertainment, a country store, and a silent auction.  This traditional event fosters school spirit and pride among student, faculty, alumni/ae and the greater community.  Coordinating the Fair is a large job involving year-round planning with its own office, and it could not happen without the well organized efforts of many volunteers.  The largest number of its 1,800 adult volunteers are parents.  Parents help in countless ways, ranging from cooking and staffing food booths , manning game booths and specialty tents to donating goods for the silent auction.

For the faculty and staff, one of the heartwarming pleasures of the Fair is the chance to see three or more generations of students’ families coming together.  In addition to the ‘Ohana, ‘Iolani has a smaller but highly valued Quilters & Crafters. Its members create handcrafted products that are sold at the annual Fair.

“‘Iolani students are compassionate, intelligent, perceptive and full of energy. Learning takes place in and out of the classroom on all levels: academic, athletic, artistic, social, emotional and spiritual. Day after day, the students amaze me. These exceptional young people are passionate about life and committed to reaching their potential.”
